A deep physic connection was revealed today as the “The Two Mighty Brittanys” whose last names both begin with a B, and who both work hammer and tongs in our top flite MDS sashayed into our Morning Meeting sporting an identical fashion sense. As far as can be told, there were no previous emails exchanged, no knowing winks traded, no surreptitious phones calls placed, nor even a Vulcan mind mold was detected. The facility instantly began to feel like the House of Dior Week in Milan. I am thinking of encouraging them to start a fashion line which Chaplain, will serve as CEO and pocket profits.
Seriously though, these two are a joy to work with and know and not just Sisters in Style.
They make Signature of Gainesville the place to live and work.

Marine Nelson

While packed into a helicopter with other Marines skimming across the surface of rice paddies and jungles, a Surface to Air missile slammed into the rotor throwing Nelson and his crew out of the cloudless Vietnamese sky. He crushed his skull in the hard landing, but lived to fight another day and in other ways. Brave Nelson, still lives with pain from that war, but he won’t stop smiling and singing.
Thank you, Nelson Harmon, for giving your youth and your health for our country.
These days, Nelson likes to sing and use humor to fight the pain of youth. He is very friendly and loves to croon with his duet buddy, together they style themselves The Swamp River Gator Boys. Some claim that they harmonize better than two cats at midnight in the back alley. Nelson Harmon is a man among men who gave his all for his country, yet still finds time today to speak a thoughtful word to those with whom he lives. They don’t make ’em like that anymore.

Bingo that Matters!

Playing for some spending money always brings the residents out, not to mention how socialization, and covering a card can grow new brain cells. (And who couldn’t use a few more of those at any age?) This is the best of both worlds, but Bingo isn’t the only thing we do. Not by far. Look at the calendar and you will see it chock-a-block with everything from Trivia contests, archaeologist visits, Hip Hop Dancing, Zumba, to Walmart forays. We bet you a shiny quarter that if you need our services that you will have the opportunity to be busier than you ever were in high school.
Come by an join us in a game. Win some pocket money. Grow a new cell or two!

Lori the Legend

Once, while giving care to a man near death, Lori performed one of her miracles. He wanted a candlelight dinner, and one dance before he died, in part because Lori reminded him of his long-deceased wife. So, she bought a steak, LED candles, and played a tape of Sinatra. They dined and danced. The next day he died.
Now that is a miracle of love.
And that is the kind of care we have here at Signature HealthCARE of Gainesville where Lori Lenzen works as Director of Dietary and said, “I have learned more from the elderly than I have from any history book.”
Thank you, Lori, for choosing to make history with us.

Will The Good News Ever End?

This breaking news just in. Signature HealthCARE of Gainesville is in the upper tier of the eight nursing homes within a 6 mile radius. There is only one of the eight that has a higher score than us, according to the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Service based in Baltimore which published the report. And that one home will be overtaken soon by our superior care. According to Brittany Barritta, MDS expert, “it seems that our reputation and the clear record do not match up”. People may say one thing, but our record says another. We are at the top of the heap in Gainesville and for that matter in all of North Florida. Signature HealthCARE of Gainesville, according to the federal record, is definitely at the top, no longer lurking at the bottom as once rumored! We are back! Two “Wows” on that plus a hand wave in the air like you just don’t care!

We’re Seeing Stars

Have you heard that the stars have finally come into alignment for Signature HealthCARE of Gainesville? Our Health Inspection shot up from 1 to 3 stars in less than six months and that our Overall Quality of Care jumped up from 2 to 3 celestial bodies. Information from surveys, inspections, complaints, and assessments are all factored into the star system by the “Two Mighty Brittany’s” in MDS who spend hundreds of hours a year processing this vital information. To put all of that in lay person’s terms, this is like a Ford Pinto transforming into a new, shiny BMW , not by magic but through elbow grease, bold leadership, and courageous hearts and all to the good for our prized residents. This nursing home is shining like never before, you may have to cover your eyes as you drive past!

(Pictures are representatives of those who helped us turn on our a star power.)

Sharon is a Mover and a Shaker

When you see Sharon you automatically break out into a smile. Sharon Graham, CNA, and soon to be Nurse, is a tornado on wheels. She has been a CNA for 40 years and she loves to see her residents happy. Her hallmarks are patience and understanding. Born and raised in the Motor City where she may have picked up the acting bug which has recently led her onto the stage where she has starred as the good-hearted, yet struggling character of Marset. Sharon has talent to burn. She loves leading children’s church and has energy to spare. Sharon is just an all round lovely human being, who believes in the power of forgiveness and love. Sharon loves to cook, act, and plant flowers. She has the heart of a champion and the grace of an angel. All those who know her, just can’t seem to get enough of her. Sharon has two children and three grandchildren and too many friends to count and we are very glad that she is our CNA.
